Parepa Rosa

Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa (1836-1874) Born in Scotland, daughter of the soprano Elizabeth Seguin and the Baron Parepa de Boyescu, Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa was a famous opera singer. In 1855 the vocalist made her debut in Malta as Amina in "La Sonnambula." She went on to sing in Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The singer was then engaged by the Royal Italian Opera at the Lyceum in London, where she debuted as Elvira in "I Puritani." Parepa-Rosa continued to sing at Covent Garden and Her Majesty's Theatre for several years. In 1867 she and her husband, Carl Rosa, formed the Parepa-Rose Grand English Opera Company, which toured England and the U.S. from 1867 to 1871. CDV SIZE; Edwin Forrest (1806-1872) Edwin Forrest is an actor who at the age of 20 appeared as Othello in New York with great success. He had favorable seasons in London as well, but in 1845 his Macbeth was hissed by the audience. This prompted him to hiss William Macready's performance in Edinburgh, destroying his reputation in Great Britain. The hissing of Macready's Macbeth by Forrest's sympathizers in New York in 1849 led to a riot which cost 22 lives.
